Alfonso Iannelli

Alfonso Iannelli

Sculptor, graphic artist, interior and industrial designer who was born in Italy, came to the U.S. in 1898 and trained with sculptor Gutzon Borglum (1867-1941-sculptor of Mt. Rushmore between 1927 and 1939), in New York. Iannelli went to Chicago in 1914 to work with Frank Lloyd Wright on Midway Gardens and founded Iannelli Studios there in 1915. Beginning in 1933, he entered the new field of industrial design and from 1948 to 1954 designed a range of products for the John Oster Manufacturing Company, including mixers, hair dryers, knife sharpeners, and hair clippers.
